While I love cataloging Victoria Beckham’s many Hermès Birkins, I love seeing her with older, less well known designer handbags too, and this Lydie is a perfect example. The Lydie is a slim envelope bag which can be worn as a clutch or with the strap as a shoulder bag. It was produced by Hermès but is no longer in production and so does not saturate the market. Victoria’s Lydie looks to be made of box calf, the quintessential Hermès leather. Keeping true to the trim, classic design, Victoria pairs the Lydie with a beautiful, simple silhouette. While many people who start on the road to Hermès never turn back (myself included), the chance to own a crocodile Birkin is presented to only a fraction of the clientèle. Forget what you’ve heard about Birkin wait lists because the way to a Birkin is as complicated as Hillary Clinton’s version of delegate math — it’s all over the place and befuddling, at best. I am quite possibly the least knowledgeable 18 - 40 year old North American female when it comes to Heidi Montag and her associates. Why? I find her and Lauren Conrad horribly boring. But today, I’ve changed my mind. This obviously very staged Mother’s Day moment between Heidi, her shadow (aka Spencer) and Heidi’s mom raised my blood pressure. The brain instinctively went into red alert. It screamed: SAVE THE KELLY! While Heidi’s mom looks cute and simple in her shirt dress, loafers and the ever classic monogram Louis Vuitton Batignolles, the beloved Hermes Kelly hanging off of Heidi’s arm makes me shudder. Upon closer inspection, this lovely Kelly looks to be fairly new and un-abused so I’m wagering that it actually belongs to some well-meaning but misguided stylist who loaned it for the purpose of this shoot. (Note to said Stylist: We need to talk.) I’m not sure of Heidi’s stature (horribly boring, remember?) so I can’t conclusively tell what size this lovely Kelly is, but I’m taking a guess that this is Hermes‘ Poussiere color, a lovely neutral with a sort of grayish undertone. The name literally means ‘dust’. I’ll leave you to the obvious witty parallels.

Oh, that Posh! She just has a closet (probably ROOM!) full of Birkin handbags to where with every Christopher Kane dress, Pucci skirt, and Roland Mouret suit that she owns. What a life! I don’t know the formal name of this color, but it is a gorgeous shade of purple that isn’t too light or dark. We’re always inundated with everything Brad & Angelina, and compared to those two, Jennifer Aniston can never compete for media attention. Just as well because Jen seems like a quiet, down to earth sort of gal. She was spotted at LAX catching a plane to Heathrow, no doubt to see her love interest, John Mayer. In the 90’s, Jen’s brand of minimalism was de rigueur, but it sometimes gets lost in this age of bling. I, for one, am never really impressed with Jen’s (lack of) fashion choices, but this picture made me do a double take. In her chosen uniform of jeans an a tee, Jen looks rather yawn-inducing, but check out that delicious bag she’s toting! The leather looks buttery and the color is almost iridescent! On second glance, I recognize that it’s an Hermès creation: the Massai. While I’d never choose this style of handbag for myself, the Massai fits Jen’s style perfectly: quiet and unassuming, comfortable and streamlined. This particularly bag looks to me to be the color graphite, rendered in Hermès‘ Swift leather, though don’t quote me on that until I can locate a closeup! More…

In “Steel Magnolias,” the wedding colors of Julia Roberts‘ character were “blush and bashful.” But in real life, she’s a much bigger fan of…blush and…jack-o-lantern? True, orange is the signature Hermes color, but there’s a difference between admiring that classic orange box and pairing a Sunny D-hued Birkin with not just a pink cardy but a floral peasant skirt to boot. (Somewhere an assistant is waving smelling salts under Victoria Beckham’s nostrils.) Posh it’s not, but I suppose Julia has better things to do than worry about clashing colors and structured purses with unstructured outfits. The first thing that pops into my head upon seeing this pic of Mary-Kate Olsen is: Slop-PY! The second: Ooh, nice purse! The disheveled twin may have wanted to hide her face, but luckily our prying eyes can still feast upon her beautiful Hermes Kelly bag in classic black (to match those hideous, very regrettable black leather leggings, I guess). Last week, she (finally!) left those at home, but her affair with menswear continued. Spotted in New York City, where she’s working on a Broadway production, Katie stepped out in high waisted, wide legged trouser jeans, a basic gray tee paired with navy cardigan and, for the luxe factor, an Hermès Kelly briefcase. While I prefer this ensemble to her usual one of late, I think Katie can use an infusion of age-appropriate, more feminine pieces in her wardrobe — her fashion choices add about a decade to her 29 years of age. Ahhhh, Victoria Beckham. I absolutely adore her. In a land of Rachel Zoe clones and purposeful dishevelment, Victoria makes it her business to look perfectly coiffed and polished. Here she is at London Heathrow (I know that terminal well!) with her adorable boys, looking nothing less than a fashion plate. I love the unexpected combination of a black hue (the gray pencil skirt) paired with a brown hue (the rosy, taupeish top, possibly Missoni), cinched in by a beautiful YSL honey-toned belt.
