Sorry, lovebirds. In Miu Miu’s world roses aren’t red, they’re violet, and their precious petals are layered over handbags like wallpaper. I’m not completely sold on this Miu Miu Nappa Patch Tote, available in black or violet nappa leather, and I think it’s because the ‘petals’ here (actually small squares of leather arranged like paper numbers at the meat counter) don’t really look like rose petals to me. Silver-tone hardware and side pockets make for nice accoutrements, but overall, I think something was lost in translation in its journey from the drawing pad to the sewing room. More…

The great divider of Miu Miu’s Shine Colour Bowler Bag is its controversial combination of black and brown leather. But if you can get behind that, there’s lots to love about this chic newcomer. The hefty bowler shape is a smart structured choice for fall, and come with a detachable cross-body strap. The leather is undeniably supple and refined, with the modern cut-out pattern to give it a fresh edge (does anyone else see a person’s neck and shoulders?). Wristlets are sort of my new obsession. I’ve been looking for one for almost every outfit (psychotic, I know!), from super dressy to super casual. The thing is, they’re so comfy to carry, and force you to downsize what you carry. This is important for me because if I’m toting a Balenciaga work, well, you can be sure I’m filling that Balenciaga work. Filling it with everything from a book to magazines to a bottle of water to my entire makeup bag; this is not a good thing. This wristlet from Miu Miu isn’t cheap, but it does work with a myriad of outfits, and also tucks in nicely to a larger work bag. Miu Miu Small Calf Leather Bowler
It had to happen sometime: I’ve finally stumbled upon a Miu Miu purse I can’t stand. This Small Calf Leather Bowler boasts a heinous, ’70s-inspired color palette. There’s something highly off-putting about the black cutouts appearing against the brown leather, and the orange bits on the sides are just about the worst detail they could have added. Who could possibly be fantasizing about this? Miu Miu does a good job confusing style-minded women with the Fantasy Patch Bag, a piece so otherworldly and plain unattractive that it actually defies style as we all know it.
