Donatella Versace, muse to her late brother, as well as several brilliant Saturday Night Live tributes. The Versace collection always brings to mind, brightly draped Roman Goddesses, golden Medusa heads and an opulent Italian lifestyle. For next Fall 2010 however, the house of Donatella seemed to take some notes from her American counterparts. The runway displayed a lot of very tailored pieces, in dark colors as well as some bright blues, yellows and oranges. To off-set the more classic look of the tailoring, there were some rock n’ roll touches of slashed shoulders and cutouts, as well as body conscious zipper details. It don’t matter if it’s black or white…or both. Guaranteed to make a statement, this Versace Thriller Bucket Bag stands out with its bold Medusa-head medallion print. Bad, bad, bad. Naughty Versace! Tacky women with too much money on their hands should not be encouraged. You know that right now this bag is slung over the bony shoulder of a woman who walked straight out of the trailer and into a fat man’s wealthy lap. This bag is graced with gaudy details and a screaming colour. In fact, take the shoulder strap away and throw a cross on it and this purse could be the long lost sister to my “Little Ms. Nurse” bag from when I used to play doctor (That bag was long ago retired, for house calls I now use a Kor). For those women who care, this purse costs $1499. It’s a little more than a month’s rent at the park, but hey, Versace thinks you’re worth it!

I love the look of the straps that go from back to front and make up the “basket”. The chain-link and leather strap are also a great touch. It does, however, have a bit of a “motorcycle mama” feel to me, which is never a good thing in my book.

This shoulder bag could be so classy with it’s golden hardware and metallic bronze leather, but then the bag has to be covered with that horrible fabric. This particular bag isn’t nearly as bad as some of those popular Louis or Fendi bags. Note to self ladies, not only are those bags unattractive, but people will assume they are knock-offs when they see them.

Every now and again (or a little more frequently for those of us with diagnosed purse addictions) a bag comes along that is irresistible. The Versace Jacquard Empire tote has a halo of light around it and the angels rejoice at the price, at $1060 this bag is an absolute Versace bargain!

The architecture of this bag makes me tingle. The shape is nautical and the colour is refreshing in a season of muted earth tones. But it is the straps that really kill me. They are like scarves around the bed post. This is probably the sexiest, most interesting bag I have EVER seen.
